Founded in 2011, Plant Therapy has been expanding continuously. It grew from an original 1200 square foot facility to over 75000 square foot, plus its own offline and online stores.

Throughout, the company has demonstrated its focus on customers and environment. It worked with a top essential oils expert to develop a line of kid safe products. It also got organic certification for several of its products, and joined the eco-movement becoming a Green Power Partner. And the company’s care for its employees has earned honorable mentions as the best place to work in Idaho.

The company markets its products through online and physical retail outlets, and uses an affiliate program to expand its user base.

Plant Therapy is headquartered at Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.

Quality and Purity

In late 2014, Plant Therapy introduced batch-specific GC/MS testing of its essential oils and started printing batch codes on every bottle from 2015. Towards late 2015, the company also became a USDA certified organic facility and had 12 certified organic essential oil blends by 2017.

Plant Therapy lists the botanical name, extraction method, country of origin, plant part, aromatic scent and GC/MS report on every single essential oil product page. You can also see each essential oil’s GC/MS report by going to its product page and clicking on Test Reports.

Sourcing

The company’s website states: “Before we even obtain a sample of an oil, we find out everything we can about the farmer, distiller or supplier. We research the background, reputation, commitment to quality” and only then move to looking at the sample.

The product page of each oil includes its country of origin and the specific plant part used to extract the oil.

Extraction Methods and Distillation

Different types of extraction methods are used for different products. You can see the specific method used for an oil by going to its product page at Plant Therapy website.

Testing

The composition and quality of oil is determined by various factors, such as the region the plant (from which it was extracted) was grown, the latitude, elevation, and soil and weather conditions. Even the time of extraction and parameters of distillation can affect quality and therapeutic effect of the oil.

Plant Therapy checks what exactly it has got from a supplier and decides on the tests based on the finding. They test a few samples from different suppliers before making a purchase, and continue to test new batches even from existing suppliers.

Certified aroma therapists at the company do organoleptic testing for smell, and the oils are also tested for color, consistency and appearance before being sent to a third party for GC/MS testing. GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/ Mass Spectroscopy) testing can reveal even tiny amounts of any substance in the oil.

Grading and Certification

Plant Therapy obtained organic facility certification from USDA in 2015, and became an EPA Green Power Partner in 2018. The same year it also gained cruelty-free Leaping Bunny Certification. Plant Therapy is definitely one of the best essential oil brands when we compare it with its competitors.
